Speakers at the dedication of Mauney-Schaeffer Conference Hall included (left to right): the Rev. Among those attending a gala on Sept. 30 were Charles F. Connor III ’79, Edie Connor ’94 and Charles M. Snipes ’58. Charles Connor and his father, Charles F. Connor Jr., sponsored a classroom in memory of Raymond M. Strunk, who taught accounting at the College many years; and in honor of Charles Snipes.

Dr. Wayne B. Powell, College president; Charles M. Snipes ’58, president of Bank of Granite; and John A. Forlines, chair of the board of Bank of Granite and honorary chair of the Mauney-Schaeffer Renovation Campaign Committee; stand inside the pavilion of the renovated buildings.

Tom Reese ’48 admires a chair presented to him in recognition of his endowment of a faculty position. Reese’s planned gift will endow the chairmanship of the Charles M. Snipes School of Business.

 

Jacob Blackburn ’40 and Alice Blackburn, widow of Thomas Blackburn ’45, stand with Charles M. Snipes. Jacob Blackburn’s donation to the Mauney-Schaeffer project will name a faculty office in memory of his brother, Thomas, a former mathematics professor at the College.

Kenny Chun ’74, Thomas Fitz, Frances Fitz, and Sunny Chun gather for a photo. The Chuns named a faculty office for Kenny’s former accounting professor, Frances Fitz.

William Seidman, former chair of the FDIC and currently chief commentator for CNBC, addresses the Fall Forum, held on campus in conjunction with the Mauney-Schaeffer Conference Hall dedication.

William M. Mauney Sr. ’65, Moretz Professor of Economics, holds up a historic Lenoir-Rhyne postcard used by one of his relatives. The Mauney family paid for the construction of Mauney Hall in 1927-1928.

Charles M. Snipes ’58 stands behind his parents, John Wesley and Mary Devine Snipes. His gift to the Mauney-Schaeffer Conference Hall named a lecture hall in their honor.
